Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve
is a "must-see" Nature Reserve in Singapore!

We’ve been visiting Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve since moving to Woodlands which is only about 15 minutes drive with private car. We’ve found new things every time we visit the wetland start from the entrance.

The Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve which managed by National Parks Board is Singapore’s first ASEAN Heritage Park and member of East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership. Its valuable biodiversity has been recognized and protected as Nature Reserve since January 2002.

What will you see inside the Wetland?

There are so many things to see especially if you have time and the right equipments to observe different types of plants and animals in Sungei Buloh.

These are images captured with 3.2 mega pixels mobile phone’s camera:

We like to see causeway from here. The Stilt Roots beautifully prop the trees. These pencil-like roots help the oxygen absorption. Observe flying birds & jumping fishes here.
We wished to have zoom lens to take better pictures for you. The birds are mesmerizing. You'll find the mural inside this observation hide while watching birds and others. Hide your body here so you won't disturb the birds. Time for rest after a long walk. Take time to observe the wildlife around the mud.
Are these leaves used for basketry? Typical pathway. Please wear comfortable shoes only! The best spot to enjoy the breeze and scenery. See Sungei Buloh from the "Tower Hide".

Are you ready to explore the Reserve?

You may enter now from this entrance:

Walk slowly and quietly when passing through this connecting walkway between carpark and visitor centre. Enjoy fresh nutmeg, vanilla or other smell according to its season! You may see Monitor Lizard resting on the walkway. Don't panic! It will clumsily escape into the undergrowth or water when disturbed.

Anyway, your walking route will look like this:

If you choose route 1, you’ll have approximately length of 3km to walk when you circle two main ponds where resident herons and migratory waders feed.

The approximately length of route 2 would be 5km. It leads to the tower hide and traditional prawn pond. Here, you’ll find the longest boardwalk from outdoor classroom brings you into the mangrove arboretum.

The longest walking trail will be route 3 with approximately length of 7km. It leads to the freshwater ponds at the western end of the reserve. You may spot common water birds like the Bittern & the White-Breasted Waterhen.

And, if you choose to walk on wooden stilt structures weaving through the mangroves near to visitor centre, you’ll hear the calls of the cicadas. Observe crabs and shellfish on the tree trunks at high tide, and look out for the unusual roots of the mangroves at low tide.
