Why Visit National Museum of Singapore?

National Museum of Singapore - The Exhibits

I had small talks with friends recently about visiting the National Museum of Singapore. They laugh at me saying that they visited the museum for many times already in the past.

Well, me too! I visited the museum for more than 2 times in nineties.

Yeah, I remember visiting the National Museum of Singapore in early 90’s, walking on the parquet floor along the narrow corridor which walls were full of old pictures depicting the early formation of Singapore, and watched the history movies with spectacles for the 3D effect.

But hey, those are in the past. You have to go there now and see the new building and new exhibits after the renovation which was completed in 2006.

The National Museum of Singapore looks brighter, friendlier with additional features for disabled and children, and spacious.

It’s indeed the biggest museum in Singapore now with 18,400m2 floor space.

You’ll see the modern new building attached to the existing building seamlessly through the corridor - “Glass Passage” creating a soft transition between the old and new building.

At the Glass Passage you’ll see the old neo-Palladian building façade and the Rotunda Dome of the museum which in the past can only be seen when we stand across Stamford Road.

The Rotunda Dome is the most prominent feature of the building.

The 50 pieces Victorian stain glass pattern seen on the Rotunda Dome had actually been restored to its glory by professional stained glass artist in Singapore during the renovation and it was installed back afterward.
