Friends from overseas told us that once they visit us, they can’t forget about Singapore. They’ll remember every detail of their holiday in Singapore. They said one visit won’t be enough.

Most friends from neighboring countries like Indonesia, Philippine, and others said that they’ve been attracted by Singapore City. They like walking on the street till late night without worry about their safety.

They can explore Singapore without a need to engage the travel agent.

Traveling in the city is easy with public transportation . The signboards are clear. The systems are in place whether you want to book a hotel, buy a ticket to see the attractions, or get a bite to fill your stomach.

They feel familiar with Singapore in someway.

And, friends from Europe, USA, and Australia told us that initially they feel that Singapore is too westernized. But, after spending few days in Singapore they start seeing the value underneath the surface.

Language:

I’ve never seen countries where people speak in many languages like Singapore. It’s something about Singapore I am proud of.

Some people speaks Malay language side by side with people speaks in Mandarin, Chinese dialect, Tamil, Hindi, Tagalog, English, “Singlish” – Singapore English slang, German, and others.

I think these are started from the early immigrants who came to Singapore and shaping the city as today.

Early Dwellers:

Begin with the arrival of Sir Stamford Raffles in 1819, the wave of Chinese traders and workers immigrants, Arab merchant, Indian traders and laborers, British colonials, and other Southeast Asian settlers followed after together with original Malay inhabitants has contributed to create a unique Singapore identity.

You’ll find the heritage of these early dwellers in the behavior of the people - customs and etiquette, architecture of the shop houses – places where they do business, and in the way we communicate to each others.

So, behind the skyscrapers that presented as modern Singapore city, there are many interesting things you can discover during your holiday.
